This month is the last that In Vitro will be open, thanks to everyone who has supported the gallery during this time by coming to the private views, buying or exhibiting art, this Saturday (14th) will be the private view of the final exhibition, which features artists Reginald Swinney, Maxrock, James Mullett, Emily Honey, David Stanners, and more. Come on down on Saturday afternoon, lets have a good one. Cheers!
December brings the gallery's 1 year anniversary of opening, the Veritas exhibition, featuring Jon Starkey, Maxrock, Kristin Gaudio Endsley, Laura Ribbons, Jon Lander, Hollie Titcomb-Day, Sinead Loftus, Victoria Hall, and Melanie Marshall. Also this month we have the launch on Immenance 'zine, by the guys from record label Dear, Records. We have lots of exciting new things in stock, including custom-made top hats and fascinators by Mel Marshall, jewellery by Sophie Scaplehorn and Zalizander, and other zines by Nicola Streeten, Kyle Underwood, and Jon Lander. See photos of the exhibition here http://www.flickr.com/photos/67222335@N02/sets/72157628292414067/
As well as the usual group exhibition at In Vitro this month, we also have a mini postcard exhibition featuring international artists called 'Post, Darling', curated by artist/writer Sophia Moseley. See http://www.postdarling.com/ for more info about this ongoing project.
The upcoming new exhibition in November is called BOOM! and includes a mini-postcard exhibition as well as illustration, photography, paintings, and more. The exhibition runs from November 2nd-30th and the private view is on Saturday November 5th, come down and join us.
At the gallery right now, selected canvas prints, framed giclee prints and even originals are on sale until the end of the month, including this original Michael Latimer painting on the right. Come on down and pick up some (even more) affordable art!
Thanks to all who came to the Hybrid private view, it was super-fun-time awesome, anyone who didn't make it can catch the exhibition here at the gallery until the end of the month, or if your'e out of town (or a lazybones) you can see the photos of the show here http://www.flickr.com/photos/67222335@N02/sets/72157627877868272/
You can now get a copy of the first issue of Shambolics, a comic by one of In Vitro's first exhibiting artists, Kyle Underwood (http://woomquip.blogspot.com/), for just £3, numbers are limited so get em while you can! Kyle is also taking part in the ongoing Art Invasion project here at In Vitro, and his artwork shall be gracing the gallery's front window in October, in time for the upcoming Hybrid exhibition, more on that soon!
As well as painting on the plinths here at In Vitro, I have extended the Art Invasion to include the front window of the gallery, and I am inviting a new artist to do some new artwork on there every month, In September the window has been adorned by Lee 'Lionbird' Griffin (http://coffeeshopsketches.tumblr.com/), here is the completed piece ----> damn its hard to photograph glass...but you can see it pretty well here. If you would like to do some painting/drawing on the window in October, give me a shout.
EDIT: ok, can't seem to upload pictures, will be fixed soon ^_^
The Fuse exhibition graced the gallery's walls this September, thanks to all who came to the private view, it was fantastic, gift bags were given away, prizes were won, all the booze was drunk, it was ace. Featured artists include Danielle Scott, Louise Patey, Josh Jackson, Carly Dirie, Famous When Dead, AEIKO, Kid Famicom, Ben Heine, Michael Latimer, Robyne Chapman, and Jenny Wickens. You can see all the works on display in the Flickr album http://www.flickr.com/photos/67222335@N02/sets/72157627607212250/
Do you want some free things? If you show up to the FUSE exhibition private view on Saturday 3rd September, 2pm - 4:30pm, you can get some free arty swag, just by showing up, and also the chance to win some even bigger mystery prizes. Why? Because by coming to the events at In vitro you show invaluable support for the gallery and the exhibiting artists, so we want to spoil you with booze and gifts. Come on down to see what you get.
Who wants to do a painting on this window of the gallery? The logo's been there for some time and it seems to confuse and alienate the general public, so lets embrace this and replace it with a skeleton riding a burrito or a train being driven by an antelope or something. The glass is super-smooth to paint on and most water-based paints are easily removed, so I am thinking of having a different painting on there every month or so, if anyone wants to kick this off and be the first, let me know.
The Art Invasion project in June 2011 was a success, all of the plinths down at the gallery are now painted, customised and immeasurably fancied up by artists Katie Upson, Johnny Jesterface, Mel Marshall, John Marsh, and Felix Leone, who did this one -------> go to http://talesfromthebasement.tumblr.com/ for more of his work.
This month we have lots of new artists, including Michael Tailford, Amanda Thompson, Natasha Kiddle, Nader Sharaf Martinez, and Maria Emilov. The exhibition is on until the end of August, so pop down and have a see if you haven't already.
Hello, I have created a new Facebook page for the gallery, in addition to the group, as Facebook have changed the way groups work, it makes more sense to have a page too. I will keep updating both, as well as making posts here and on Twitter, and also sending out the monthly newsletter, so you shall not go wanting for the latest info about In Vitro and our doings. Please go the the new page and 'like' it at http://www.facebook.com/pages/In-Vitro-gallery/237437949620700
Also, see the image for details of the upcoming Sliver group exhibition in August!

In Vitro is proud to stock zines in addition to the usual dope-ass selection of original art, including Inbox (12), a zine full of postcards by international illustrators, Crocodiles, etc by English student Nick Beaumont, which features artwork by in Vitro artists Bradley Oliver-White, Amber Muir, and Matt Lawson, and the student-produced b[liminal] art and culture magazine.
at In Vitro this month we have the Glance exhibition, featuring work by artists Susie Olczak, James Sutton, Jon Starkey, James Mullett, Mel Marshall, Charli Anderson, and Esme Dodsworth, thanks to all who attended the private view on June 4th, this exhibition runs until June 30th, look out for a big show in July as well, tentatively titled 'Fresh Peaches', more on that soon.
This month we have the Epidermis exhibition, the first themed show at In Vitro. Artists have responded to the theme 'body art' in lots of different ways, with body painting, pigskin sculpture, and tattoo designs, despite having less exhibitors than usual, the opening day was very well attended, thanks to everyone who braved the temperate spring weather to join us, thanks also to Badgehat productions, who started filming the for the In Vitro documentary at Epidermis' private view.
In Vitro is now stocking some Sourpuss accessories, its a bit different to the usual gallery stuff, but I thought I'd give it a shot, we have jewellery, hair accessories, and cute pillows!
Thanks to everyone who entered the Shoe Horn competition at In Vitro this month, they were all great, though the overall winner is... Sarah Potton!! Her dope-ass customised 'Plants vs Zombies' size 6 trainers are on exhibition for the rest of this month and will be available to buy from the gallery for 67 pounds, message me if you want to own a piece of original art for your feet.
Well, this month has been good for In Vitro, a new monthly group exhibition, Think Spring, is being installed this week (the opening day for this is on Saturday April 9th, see Upcoming Events), there are new print browsers in the gallery for unframed prints and other works on paper, meaning that theres even more to see at the gallery.
We were also featured in the Illustration rally blog and members of the East Central College (USA) art club showed some artwork here (and kindly donated it to the gallery). Pics of this are up on the facebook page, though I'd recommend coming down and seeing their art in the flesh.
The Shoe Horn competition has had some great entries so far, I can't wait to see
all of them.
In May, In Vitro is having its first themed art exhibition with Epidermis, a show inspired by tattoos and other forms of body art, including tattoo flash art, live body painting, and more. To get involved with
this, please get in touch via the Contact page.
This month we have the IV exhibition, the private view went really well, lots of people came to drink the free wine and meet the artists, though I was wondering if I should do more to promote the opening days, if anyone has any ideas, let me know. Today I have mostly been painting my mate's baby bump to promote the upcoming body art exhibition in May, which will feature lots of tattoo flash artists, live body painting, and other kinds of body/tattoo-related work, if you want to be a part of this, get in touch via the contact page.
This month at the gallery has been The Charm exhibition, so named due to it being the third monthly exhibition at In Vitro since it first opened. Had a few wobbles due to people having to drop out of the exhibition due to lack of funds and other problems, and taking the whole place apart and putting it back together in 2 days, but it came together in the end thanks to the awesome exhibiting artists, including Steve McConnell who has been on the scary ladder painting the mural, and to everyone else who has been supportive of In Vitro since I opened it, thanks to all. To view pictures of this awesome show, see the Current Show page.
Look out for the as-yet untitled March exhibition, private view on Saturday March 5th, from 1pm till 5pm.
